We have applied for and been been granted permission to hold a peaceful parade on Saturday, 25th October 2008, in order to highlight DARG’s and other animal welfare organisations concerns with regards to certain aspects of the proposed new Animal By-laws, and have officially invited the Mayor of Cape Town to attend the event to accept our Memorandum.
While we agree on the need to consolidate current legislation, we believe that the By-law should result in IMPROVED ANIMAL RIGHTS, be readily implementable and should not render an already-flawed system even more difficult to administer. We need public support in voicing effective opposition to the passing of the By-law and in ensuring that the opinions of animal rights groups are taken into account by the City.
The public can help directly by:
- Attending the DARG Promenade Parade on Saturday 25th October 2008. Participants will be required to converge at Three Anchor Bay, opposite Sea Point Place at precisely 10h30 and, at 11h00, proceed to walk to the Pavilion to hand over the Memorandum.
- Joining our Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=42869030751
- Voicing specific concerns to the City via email through frederick.venter@capetown.gov.za
We need to put our collective voices together to ensure that the new Animal By-law serves our city, it’s citizens, and our animals, in the best way possible. Please note that this event is intended to be peaceful, fun and colourful, and we anticipate a huge turnout of supporters and television coverage.
