Spare a thought for Brandy!

Herewith a photo of the wonderful addition to our family whom we adopted from you almost 2 years ago.  Her name was Dixie, however, we renamed her Brandy at the time as we felt she didn’t respond particularly well to her name.

Brandy has the most wonderful nature, is happy, prances like a lipizaner when she sees you, with a huge smile on her face.   So, it is with mixed feelings that I mention herewith the reason for this email.

About a month ago I noticed Brandy appeared a little disorientated, but by morning she seemed fine.   A week later, the vet diagnosed her with Total Retina Detachment and the prognosis seemed bleak.   After a few tests which all came up negative, the next step was to remove fluid from the eye.   Sadly, and totally unexpected by the doctors concerned, they discovered she had lymphoma.

However, due to her health and strength they felt she would be an ideal candidate for chemotherapy, which would give her a chance at partial sight and certainly add at least 1 – 4 years to her life.   Brandy’s health and possible sight are non negotiable, and have therefore started chemo as well as high doses of quarterzone, plus eye drops etc, etc.   She will be administered with the drug once a week for a period of 6 months.  She is now treated like a newborn baby, and I set my alarm to wake her up every 3 hours to go outside.

Brandy

The miraculous news, is that, although I am only due to see Dr Bauer next Thursday when she has her next intravenous chemo, I am 90% certain she has regained most of her sight.   For the first time in 2 weeks, she is chasing birds, barking, and once once again doing the lipizaner prance!

Thank you to all staff at Darg who looked after Dixie/Brandy for what I was told was 2-3 years that she stayed in your kennels.   I am astounded that no-one chose to adopt her, but would like to believe she was meant to be with us. I believe from the bottom of my heart she will survive this and have many years of love and quality life ahead of her.
